San Roque House is a residential renovation in Santa Barbara’s San Roque neighborhood, reimagining a mid-century modern ranch through the distinct perspectives of two homeowners. One a passionate collector with an appreciation for traditional design, the other drawn to modernism and architectural restraint, the project presented an opportunity to create a home where contrasting aesthetics could coexist without compromise. Rather than defaulting to a conventional transitional style, Canyon Collective Studio developed a layered interior design approach that celebrates the tension between old and new. Warm wood ceilings, clean architectural lines, contemporary finishes, and an extensive collection of art and objects create spaces that feel curated rather than prescribed. The result is a deeply personal California residence where two distinct design sensibilities find common ground, each retaining its identity within a cohesive whole.
